Youth Religious Education

St. Catherine of Siena parish takes this commission to heart. Our Religious Education department encourages youth to participate in the life of the Church and in prayer through the following programs.
Weekly Program
Youth religious education is offered for grades K-8 on a weekly basis during the school year.  The program teaches the Catholic Faith to young people on an age appropriate level. Topics of instruction include the Profession of Faith, Liturgy, Catholic Life, and Christian Prayer.

Monthly Program
Family religious education is offered for parish families on a monthly basis during the school year.  This program supports the parents in their role as the primary educators of their child. Local priests offer teachings from the Catechism of the Catholic Church to parents while youngsters receive grade based instruction. Parents are comitted to teach their children the remaining weeks of the month. Regular attendance of all family members is required.

Sacrament Programs
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist
After completing at least one year of religious education, students in the second grade prepare for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Each child is assigned a session for preparation meetings. A mini-retreat will be held in the spring. First reconciliation is traditionally celebrated in February and First Eucharist in May.

Confirmation
Confirmation preparation begins in 6th grade. Students attend a preparation meeting and practice Christian life by fullfilling service hours.
In 7th and 8th grade students continue to attend perparation meetings and retreats. Confirmation is celebrated according in Spring of 8th Grade or Fall of 9th Grade as the Bishop's schedule permits.

Bible Camp Program
Camp St. Catherine is a fun filled vacation bible school experience for children entering grades K-6 held in July. Campers participate in daily mass, learn scripture verses, sing songs, and make craft projects. We are blessed to have the Quakertown Fire department provide water activities one of the days at camp.
Adults and youth entering 7th grade and up are encouraged to volunteer to help as counselors.
Monday-Friday 9:00am-12:30pm Counselors arrive at 8:30am.

Youth Ministry
High school teens are encouraged to continue their growth in the faith by participating in our Youth Ministry Program. This program consists of prayer, service and fellowship.

Curriculum
In addition to the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Catholic Bible, St. Catherine's religous education curriculum is based on the Faith First Series of text books.  This series has a variety of online resources for families and catechists such as chapter review, games, story time and much more.
